One God, One Truth, One Story...

by Greg Smith on June 9th, 2011

"4There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all." Ephesians 4:4-6

How often is the Bible said to be just a, "bunch of stories"? Ever heard that the Bible is not really one story but many? Someone ever describe to you what they felt were contradictions in the Bible saying one part of the Bible says one thing but later it says something different?

What about our lives? When we look back at the events that we have lived through, do we see mostly disconnected or seemingly isolated incidents and not connected to each other? Or what about a change in your life when you acted one-way and changed in different way; disconnected isolated incidents or connected?

I would imagine that you would say that your life is telling one big story in progress! Most could see the continuity between one event in their life and the previous events or decisions before it that prompted it. For example; you decide to not wash your clothes, so at the end of the week when you are in a rush to get to work, you arrive late to work because you had to clean your clothes which prompts the boss to tell you that you are being irresponsible, which makes you… you get the picture.

The Bible is a continuous story telling of a God who, before the foundations of the universe, had a plan set in motion that would find all it’s “Yes’s” in Jesus Christ. The Bible starts off with creation and it’s longing for Him,next His arrival and the wonder of Him, then His death, resurrection, and salvation because of Him, and now the awaiting of the return of Him in power. The Bible is all about Christ!

We often miss it but it is so important to remember the Bible and our lives are not disconnected and isolated stories but one big Story! I wonder if you remembered and reflected today on the awesome truth that it is all about Christ; what would today be like for you? Just another day or your story being played out in His big Story!

Maybe this 11 year old can help…
